About EU Polluters
This site shows who releases which pollutants near you, anywhere in Europe. It uses only data published by the European Union: the European Environment Agency's industrial reporting database and EU legislation.
How to use it
- On the map, type an address. Facilities within the chosen radius are listed with the substances they released in their last reporting year.
- Click a dot or a name to open a facility: its releases to air, water and land and its transfers in waste water, compared with the legal reporting thresholds. You also get trends, the parent company, the address and the operating status by year.
- Switch a facility to Groups to see its greenhouse gas emissions in CO2-equivalent and its releases by E-PRTR pollutant group (heavy metals, pesticides…), with the change against the previous year.
- Rankings list the top 10 polluters for a group in Europe, a country, a NUTS-3 region, or a circle around your search.
The data
- Source: EEA Industrial Reporting database v16 (E-PRTR + IED), 20 Feb 2026, https://doi.org/10.2909/657ac3cb-affa-4295-a4a9-27b4f539adab (CC-BY 4.0, © European Environment Agency). This is the full Access database, not the summary tables.
- 67,747 facilities, of which 34,840 reported pollutant releases or transfers (691,576 values), and 1,085,781 waste transfer records, for 2007–2024.
- Facilities report under the E-PRTR Regulation (EC) 166/2006 when they exceed the capacity thresholds of Annex I and the release thresholds of Annex II. Amounts are in kg per year and waste in tonnes. Each value is flagged as Measured, Calculated or Estimated, and accidental releases are shown separately.
- Parent company, address and region come from the EU Registry and show the current state. The database does not keep ownership history by year.
- Red dots reported in their country's latest available year. Coverage differs: Cyprus (to 2023), Czechia (to 2022), Iceland (to 2022), Liechtenstein (to 2017), Lithuania (to 2022), Malta (to 2022), Norway (to 2017), Slovakia (to 2022), Switzerland (to 2022), United Kingdom (to 2019).
- About 435 older facilities (mostly German, 2007–2017) have no current registry record with location and name, so they are not shown.
- Figures are as reported by operators to national authorities. Year-on-year jumps above 100× are marked ⚠ as possible reporting errors.
- Reporting thresholds come from E-PRTR Annex II on EUR-Lex. Groups follow the European Commission's E-PRTR guidance, and global warming potentials follow Regulation (EU) 2020/1044.
